Paul-Antoine Lehur, chair of the regional events working group, discusses ESCP’s 7th Regional Masterclass on Reoperative Colorectal Surgery which is set to take place in Antalya, Turkey in spring 2019.

On the 13 April 2019, ESCP will be running its 7th regional masterclass in conjunction with the National Meeting of the Turkish Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery which will focus on reoperative colorectal and anal surgery. The masterclass will be held at the Regnum Carya Hotel and Convention Center in Antalya, Turkey.

The scientific programme will run over the course of a full day and will cover four key topics:

  1. Relapse of anal fissure and haemorrhoids
  2. Anatomic leaks from resection colorectal surgery
  3. The difficult stoma
  4. Recurrent rectal cancer

Up to 15 renowned coloproctology experts and chairs from the ESCP and the Turkish Society will be chosen to take part on the behalf of the ESCP Education Committee led by Dieter Hahnloser.

Paul said:

“This is a fantastic opportunity for both junior and senior colorectal surgeons to meet and exchange knowledge and best practices in these difficult conditions. Each speaker will be translated from English to Turkish and vice versa which demonstrates the collaborative nature ESCP upholds throughout these sessions. I look forward to welcoming all attendees to Antalya next Spring for what promises to be a highly interactive and insightful programme.”

We are delighted to be delivering 3 more fantastic events in 2018 on a variety of topics. Registration deadlines for all these courses are fast approaching so be sure to book your place today!
Hands-on workshop on ileoanal pouches and continent Ileostomies
The workshop is a training initiative by ESCP's European School of Coloproctology and the EHTG (European Hereditary Tumour Group) to promote theoretical background knowledge and practical experience on the ileoanal pouch procedure and two different variants of a continent ileostomy. The course will take place on 15-16 November in Hamburg.
Course Director, Gabriela Möslein:

"This workshop is a fantastic opportunity for surgeons to improve their knowledge, understanding and practical experience of the ileoanal pouch procedure and specifically the forgotten salvage procedure of continent ileostomies.
"We have an excellent experienced faculty from Sweden and Germany and interactive sessions planned over to the two days. Practical experience will be the asset of the second day, allowing for construction laparoscopic ileoanal pouches, fashioning these into continent ileostomies and vice versa. We look forward to seeing our successful candidates in Hamburg next month. You will then be some of the first to learn this forgotten value of the procedure described 1967 by Nils Kock, which has now revolved in a modified fashion."
ESCP Anal Fistula Masterclass in Rome
ESCP is looking forward to hosting its 6th Regional Masterclass in Rome next month. The masterclass, to be held on the 19 November at Tor Vergata University Hospital, has been organised by long-standing ESCP Education Committee member, David Zimmerman, and ESCP Treasurer, Filippo La Torre. It will focus on treating complex anal fistula and will feature renowned expert, Christoph Isbert.
Course Director, David Zimmerman:

"Perianal fistula is a very common problem that is often treated by junior doctors, with little experience and knowledge about it. The Masterclass in Rome will seek to address this concern among trainee surgeons."
"In the courses we highlight both the commonly accepted techniques, including the risks and dangers, as well as newer techniques that are frequently introduced. It is important that these techniques are introduced with caution. As such, we focus on potential benefits, but also present objective evidence (which can be limited) and pitfalls. In this way we hope to prevent frivolous implementation at the cost of patient satisfaction."
Laparoscopic CME Programme
The aim of this comprehensive educational programme is to achieve competency in laparoscopic CME through a workshop and direct 1:1 tuition in the operating theatre.
A two-day course, taking place in Hamburg from 17-18 December, is to master anatomy, operative planning, and to learn operative techniques on a cadaver model.
It will cover topics such as pathological outcomes and quality control and perioperative management, with a number of highly interactive modules scheduled across both days.
The programme will be followed by 1:1 teaching by a member of the faculty in the participants' hospitals over a period of 6 months (4 days in total) when performing the first live cases.

Course Director, Danilo Miskovic:

"This workshop combines the sharing of knowledge and experience in both a traditional learning and highly interactive formats. The programme aims to enable skilled laparoscopic surgeons to become proficient in performing laparoscopic CME with central vascular ligation. It is a great opportunity and we encourage surgeons to submit ahead of the deadline."
